Holiness

  1. The word “holy” is a derivative of the word “whole.” Therefore, “holiness” could be said to derive from “wholiness,” to coin a word for our discussion here.
  2. Verses that confirm this are found in John 1, 1 John 4:8 and 1 John 1:5. “God is love” and “God is light. In Him there is no darkness at all.” To be whole is the antithesis of being mixed, divided, partial dual, double-minded or two-faced. God is not part light and part darkness. He is not part love and part hate, part forgiving and part vindictive. His love is unconditional toward the evil as well the good, the unbeliever as well as the believer. Luke 6:35. God loves and is kind to His enemies. God’s total essence is 100 percent pure agape love. The cross proves the character of God. God does not pour out His wrath against an unconditionally loving savior at Calvary. Wrath and anger are sins. Col 3:8 KJV. God’s character is exactly the same as His Son, agape love. If you have seen Jesus you have seen His Father. John 14:9. The wrath of God poured out on Jesus at Calvary is the wrath of Satan (Rev12:12) permitted by God for a good and redemptive purpose, the salvation of the world. Jesus did not die to convince His Father to love us. He died to convince us of His Father’s love so we would love His Father and all others. Satan kills. God sent Jesus to give us life. God does not kill. John 10:10; Heb 2:14. Satan has successfully deceived, veiled and blinded the eyes of the whole world, including Christianity, about this. 2 Cor 4:4-6.
  3. Wholeness or holiness is therefore being made in the image of the Son and His Father, not divided, partial, dual, or mixed. It is to be holy or whole. It is not to be both peace and violence, not both lover of enemies but retaliatory against enemies, not both darkness and light. God never curses anyone. God blesses people. Both blessing and cursing should never come out of the same mouth. James 3:8-14. God is pure blessing and agape love.
  4. To be whole or holy therefore, is to be single, simple, and sincere; not partial, mixed or divided. God is no respecter of persons. He loves all equally and totally. God is unconditional love at all times. God is “pure” of heart and never both evil and good. He loves everyone purely, regardless of performance. Forrest Gump is the best example of this I can think of outside of the Lord Himself. God’s love is unconditional not conditional. Even gangsters have conditional love. Matt 5:43-48.
  5. Holiness is the unconditional agape love of God and the attributes that love causes us to have.
